Viratane™ tablets, provided by Douglas
Laboratories®, provide standardized extracts of both
olive leaf (Olea europa) and the prickly pear cactus
leaf (Opuntia streptacantha).
FUNCTIONS
Viratane provides natural immune system support
through the combined action of olive leaf extract (Olea
europa) and prickly pear cactus leaf extract (Opuntia
streptacantha).
Olive Leaf Extract (Olea europa): Olives, prominent
in Mediterranean diets, have long been associated with a
variety of health benefits. Numerous phytochemicals
found throughout the olive tree are largely responsible
for these benefits. Of particular interest is oleuropein, a
bitter phenolic glycoside. Oleuropein is one of the
predominant polyphenolic compounds found in the
fruit, leaves, bark, and root of the olive tree. It is known
for its ability to guard the plant against infective
organisms and as an antioxidant. The elenolic acid
component of oleuropein has been identified as one of
the primary agents responsible for broad-spectrum
protective properties of the olive plant. In vitro tests
have found that oleuropein prevents low density
lipoprotein oxidation and inhibits platelet aggregation,
in part through its inhibitory effect on proaggregatory
prostaglandins.
Prickly Pear Cactus Leaf Extract (Opuntia
streptacantha): Recent research indicates that, like the
olive tree, Opuntia strepacantha, the particular species
of prickly pear cactus in Viratane, has natural properties
which protect the plant from deleterious
microorganisms.

Viratane tablets, which provide a potent combination of
olive leaf extract and prickly pear cactus extract, may be
a beneficial nutritional supplement for individuals who
